Program Description:
Join the State Library of North Carolina Government and Heritage Library, in partnership with the Institute for the Study of the Americas at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the “New Roots: Voices from Carolina del Norte” initiative for an in-person workshop on the art of oral histories.
During this session, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of what oral histories entail and how to conduct them effectively. Focusing on the preliminary stages of preparation, including selecting a thematic focus and crafting thought-provoking interview questions, the workshop features an exploration of various question types that contribute to the creation of compelling oral histories, accompanied by insightful demonstrations through sample audio clips. Moreover, attendees will receive valuable guidance on recommended equipment and best practices for capturing high-quality oral history interviews.
