Contemporary Music Conducting Position

The Department of Performance invites applications for a postiion in Contemporary Music Conducting at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, for an initial three-year tenure-track appointment beginning in August 2013.
Duties may include: conducting and supervision of the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble, chamber music coaching, teaching conducting techniques, supervision of graduate conducting students, undergraduate and graduate seminars, committee work and development of curriculum offerings at all levels. Continuation of an active performing / research career is assumed.
Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a Doctorate or equivalent, with extensive conducting experience in new music. There must be evidence of expert knowledge of trends and issues in contemporary art music combined with effective teaching. Organizational and interpersonal skills will also be considered.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled; those received by December 14, 2012 will be given full consideration. Selected candidates will be invited to teach masterclasses and meet with members of the Faculty Search Committee.

The position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
