The Schulich School of Music invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Performance at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure, for an initial 5-year appointment beginning July 1, 2013.

The school is seeking an energetic and visionary leader to motivate and engage faculty members, to inspire excellence in teaching and research, and to further enhance collegiality, consultation, and collaboration within the Department and Faculty. The Chair will guide the development of the Department and supervise its daily activities including the recruitment of students and faculty members. The Chair is expected to contribute to teaching and research activities at a level sufficient to remain active in their discipline. The Chair is the chief administrator of the department and the primary representative of the unit with respect to the Schulich School and McGill University. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining academic standards, staffing, budget, and the recruitment, support, and assessment of faculty and personnel.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in administration, music performance and pedagogy, and be actively involved in current musical scenes. He or she will show strong leadership in maximizing research output, teaching innovation and professional activities in the Department of Performance. Organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills will also be of the utmost importance. Candidates are expected to have a distinguished record of teaching, professional activities and university service.
